We transferred Winky from Town Lake Animal Center in January. She is a Chow Chow/ Corgi mix.

She is fluffy and adorable. When she looks at you, her whole body wiggles. Winky, unfortunately, contracted Heartworms and required treatment for this terrible disease. Winky finally found a very nice lady who fell in love with her and was able to provide a quiet environment required for her treatment. After a few weeks adjustment time in her new home, Winky will begin the hard road to recovery. After her treatments, she will be a normal, healthy, constant companion for her new owner.

Heartworms are a big problem for dogs and cats in Texas. They must be on preventative monthly to avoid this awful disease. If you are looking for a dog, and can provide a quiet environment for them to undergo treatment, do not miss out on the chance to save a pet truly in need. Update (April 2009)-
I saw the request for success stories on facebook and thought I would send a quick note. My family adopted Winky from the Humane Society in February 2007. She made it through her treatment just fine and is doing great these days. She is usually lounging around the house with us (she really acts like a giant cat) and she absolutely loves it when she gets a banana for a snack.
